The Cowardly Wordsmith

Someone once told me that I had an amazing ability to compartmentalize. It wasn’t until much later that I realized they had meant it as an insult; I foolishly took it as a complement. Silly me.

Throughout the years, I’ve had numerous occurrences involving the same kind of interaction, just with different words. Always meant as insults; always taken as complements.

I’ve probably been called egoistic and selfish the most. There are plenty of others, but those were the two that came to mind first.

Compartmentalize: to separate into distinct parts, categories, or compartments.

Egoistic: Characterized by the vice of egoism; absorbed in self. In ethics, pertaining or relating to one’s self, and not to others; relating to the promotion of one’s own well-being, or the gratification of one’s own desires.

Selfish: Concerned chiefly or excessively with oneself, and having little regard for others. Caring only for self; influenced solely or chiefly by motives of personal or private pleasure or advantage: as, a selfish person.

I had forgotten how words had been pulled and stretched beyond all recognition. I’m self-taught. My knowledge comes mostly from reading and contemplating. I’m a dabbler in all things nerdy.

As such, a disturbing pattern emerges. In each case, the original meaning of the word is the exact opposite of how it’s used now. How incredibly odd.

This pattern of switching the true meaning of words to their opposites, could it be by chance? Just a strange coincidence? If you’ve read my blog for any amount of time, I’m sure you know where I place my hat on the question of randomness.

Nothing is by chance.

Babel’s Return

I won’t waste time defending the above examples, but I will add to the mix then pose a serious question to all my fellow wordsmiths. Ready?

Here’s a short list of the most important words currently being misused, corrupted and tainted beyond salvation. Note that when people use the first word or phrase, they really mean what comes after (in italics). It’s all part of destroying ideas.

climate change – purposely confusing man-made, nature
racism – overused, no true meaning remains
anti-vax’er – political term, used to shut down discussion
science denier – derogatory, used to shut down discussion
truther – derogatory, used to shut down discussion

So, for all you budding writers, anyone else want to take a stab at this? Truth be told, I’m not a writer; I’m just a lowly musician. What on earth would I know about wordsmithery? I shouldn’t be the one guy trying to save what’s left of our words, concepts and ideas.

Mayhaps someone better suited might one day take up this charge?

Have a great day, please rise up before all the good words are gone!

Questions

What exactly is the jab for? It doesn’t stop you from getting or transmitting. It serves no purpose other than to ease symptoms on an individual level. Why does everyone need to get it?

Why are all the people who don’t adhere to all the rules healthier than those who have followed them? It’s true, just look it up. I’m one of them. Never been sick, never will get sick.

If this was a real pandemic, where are all the bodies? The streets should be filled with them, but that’s never been the case. There were far less deaths last year than in 2019.

Again, go look it up for yourself!

Note: Their plans are so overt at this stage that if people don’t see it, it’s because they’re choosing not to. So many of our countrymen would rather knowingly accept a comfortable lie than face an uncomfortable truth. I try to always think the best of humanity, but the willful ignorance that I see around me makes it difficult at times.

  1. I’m trying to figure out how to write something that in my blog that won’t come across as preachy. But you reminded me of it here. Our world was created to be a world of order. Everything works together in a set way. Each created thing, has a purpose and a part. Let’s call it the dark side, is going out of its way to bring about confusion and chaos in a way to destroy all that order. Rules are dissolved, right is wrong and wrong is right, there are no rules, but follow the rules. All lives matter, but not so much yours, divide, conquer and destroy. Follow along lemmings, it is for the good of all. “The needs of the many, out weigh the needs of the one.”
